Local Government Reform

Changes to Suffolk's Local Government

As you maybe aware, the Government is seeking to introduce local government reforms during this parliament, which will affect Suffolk's current county, borough and district councils. At this stage it has been agreed that Suffolk is on the fast track to move to a unitary council structure. Alongside, a Mayoral Combined Authority will be established for Norfolk and Suffolk, which will undertake more strategic elements devolved from Whitehall/Westminster.

The picture of what it means for Suffolk's residents will become clearer over the next few months but, at this stage it isn't envisaged that it will impact what Coddenham Parish Council is responsible for.

There are a number of sources of local authority news, but the most recent posting from Suffolk County Council is available here and that for Mid-Suffolk District Council is available here.

We will attempt to keep this page updated as information becomes available. In the meantime you may access the Government's Norfolk and Suffolk Devolution Consultations by clicking here and you are encourage to commenti here. The closing date is 13th April 2025.
